3 Tips for Weight Loss

Losing weight is on many peoples to do list, however going about it is much more difficult. My blog post today attempts to give you 3 simple tips to help you go about your weight loss goals, in the most effective and efficient way possible, in order to shed those extra pounds before Christmas (so then you can put it all back on over the festive period).

Tip 1 – High intensity exercise

Do not waste your time with low steady state cardio exercise; vary your workout using a variety of high intensity exercises. Explosive Quick bursts of exercise aids in raising the intensity of the session, which burns more calories and fat during and after the session via:

  • Increased resting metabolic rate for upwards of 24 hours after exercise.
  • Improved insulin sensitivity in the muscles.
  • Higher levels of fat oxidation in the muscles.
  • Significant spikes in growth hormone levels (which aid in fat loss) and catecholamine levels (chemicals your body produces to directly induce fat mobilization).
  • Post-exercise appetite suppression

Tip 2 – Healthy Eating

Without eating properly any work you put in the gym is wasted. Remove all the junk food and high starchy foods (Pasta, white rice, potatoes, etc) that leave you feeling bloated. Three square meals are okay however you want to supplement these with small healthy snacks (i.e fruits, plain nuts, etc) in between meals to keep your metabolism high all through the day.

Tip 3 – Physically active lifestyle

Try and make everyday life more active; instead of driving down to the shops try walking, instead of spending the afternoon in front of the TV why not take a bike ride around the park, if you are sitting at your desk all day at work try getting up for a stroll around the office every hour. These are just simple things to make physical activity habit in your lifestyle which has a massive impact in shedding that extra weight.
